The course "Geotechnics T220B003EN" is prepared for Bachelor's degree program Road Engineering. Part of the course could be used for Bachelor's degree program Construction Engineering as "Geotechnics T220B004EN".
Learning Outcomes of the
Subject Studies:
- Be able to perform testing of soil properties
- To evaluate the main soil physical and mechanical properties.
- Be able to analize the strain and deformation processes in the soil and determine suitability of soil for construction of foundation of bridge abutment, road embankment.
- To be able to apply the software for the verification of results from analytical calculations -analysis of settlement, evaluation of slope stability, etc.
- Understand and be able to apply geotechnical design principles in selecting the type of shallow and pile foundation structures for bridge supports.
- Understand and be able to apply flexible (mat) foundation base design principles in selecting plate foundation, roadbed, water and so on. culvert structures.
- Be able to assess the slope stability of road embankment and to choose the measures to ensure the stability.
- Be able to understand and construct drawings of shallow and pile foundations, diagrams of contact stress.
- Be able to understand what the bases are weak or not suitable for the installation of road embankment and use of principles and measures to increase of bearing capacity for weak bases.
